The illuminating group covers twelve line items in 60 mm, 81/82 mm and 120 mm. Designation families are M01, M87P1 and Mk15 in 120 mm; M08, M67, M67P2, M91 and Mk10 in 60 mm; and M09, M67, M95 and Mk11 in 81/82 mm. Every entry states the mass of the illuminating candle, composition or shell charge, a fuze designation, a light output in candela with a burning time, and a maximum range figure. All but the Mk15 are described as parachute bombs; the Mk15 states a 2 m2 canopy.

How the illuminating nature is specified
An illuminating line in a tender annex carries the calibre, the length and mass with fuze, the mass of the illuminating candle, composition or shell charge, the fuze designation, the light output in candela with its burning time, the mean rate of descent where stated, and a maximum range figure against a named barrel length. All but the Mk15 add an increment charge arrangement, an ignition cartridge and a minimum range figure. Maximum mean operating pressure, operating temperature range and packaging close most entries.
Designation families and what varies by model
Light output tracks candle or charge mass across the group: 200 g gives 180000 Cd for 35 s on the 60 mm M08, M67 and M67P2; 300 g gives 350000 Cd for 30 s on the 60 mm M91 and Mk10; 400 g gives 500000 Cd for 40 s on the 81/82 mm M09 and M67; and 700 g gives 750000 Cd for 40 s on the M95 and Mk11. Within a pair the ignition cartridge is often the only change, M80 against M98 on the 60 mm M67 and M67P2.
Questions about this equipment
Which line uses an electronic time fuze?
The 120 mm Mk15. It states the ETSQ M365 electronic time fuze with a time setting from 5 to 99.9 s, a 1230 g illuminating composition burning at least 60 s, a 2 m2 canopy and a lighting radius on the ground of 1050 m at 0.2 lx. The other eleven entries state pyrotechnical time fuzes of the TP series.
What maximum ranges are published?
They run from 2450 m for the 60 mm M08, M67 and M67P2 to 6600 m for the 120 mm M01, with 3650 m on the 81/82 mm M09 and M67, 4000 m on the 60 mm M91 and Mk10, 5480 m on the M95 and Mk11, 5900 m on the Mk15 and 6000 m on the M87P1. Each figure is quoted against a stated barrel length.
