Choosing between bolt-action and semi-automatic
A tender for a sniper rifle usually states the cartridge, the required effective range and whether the weapon must be bolt-action or semi-automatic. The bolt-action M07 AS and M07 AF are specified with a 3 or 5-round magazine, adjustable comb and length of pull, and a 1000 m effective range; the semi-automatic Dragunov M91 rifles carry 10 rounds and a 6x sight with best accuracy up to 800 m. Both are available in 7.62x51 mm for NATO stocks and 7.62x54R mm for Eastern stocks.
What separates the anti-materiel rifles
Black Spear and Black Arrow share M98-pattern bolt-action locking and a 5-round magazine, but differ in furniture: the 12.7x99 mm Black Spear lists an adjustable aluminium stock with built-in buffer, while both Black Arrow rifles list a fluted heavy barrel and a glass-fibre polymer stock with two spring buffers. Each is offered in 12.7x99 mm with a 1600 m effective range and in 12.7x108 mm with 1800 m. The SARAC 99 is a different class: a 20x110 mm rifle on an adjustable tripod with a crew of three.
