Semi-automatic 9x19 mm pistol derived from the CZ 999 design, fitted with an accessory rail to NATO standard and an open-type hammer.
These submachine guns are chambered for rifle cartridges rather than pistol rounds: 5.56x45 mm or 7.62x39 mm, from a 254 or 290 mm barrel, with 30-round magazines and selective fire. A tender for them normally specifies maximum length with the stock folded, weight with a loaded magazine, selective fire and, where required, a foregrip or BGP 40 mm launcher option. The AK M21 set includes four spare magazines, a cleaning kit and a sling.
All three pistols operate on short recoil of the barrel with a single/double-action trigger, aluminium alloy frame and a 15 or 10-round magazine in 9x19 mm. The CZ 999 is the base service pistol with loaded chamber indicator, ambidextrous controls and double-row detachable magazine. The EZ 9 is derived from it and adds an accessory rail to NATO standard for optical and electronic devices and an open-type hammer. The EZ 9 Compact shortens the barrel from 108 to 98 mm and the overall length to 188 mm.
The AK M21 and AK M21 BS are chambered for 5.56x45 mm and the AK C1 and AK M92 for 7.62x39 mm, the calibres also listed for the assault rifles in this catalogue; all feed from 30-round magazines. All four are gas-operated with a rotating bolt and list semi-automatic and automatic fire at 600 or 620 rds/min.
The CZ 999 and EZ 9 are 198 mm long with a 108 mm barrel and weigh 0.94 kg and 0.95 kg; the EZ 9 Compact is 188 mm long with a 98 mm barrel and weighs 0.90 kg. All three are 140 mm high and take a 15 or 10-round 9x19 mm magazine.
