Stun and flash-bang grenades give entry and arrest teams a few seconds of disorientation. The RSB-P, RSB-4P, RSB-7P and RSB-4PZ family produces one, four or seven reports at one-second intervals, with the 4PZ adding a falling-projectile whistle. The RSFB pairs a single report with an intense flash, the RSB-D3 delivers three successive blast and flash effects at 140 dB, and the spherical rubber RSB-M5 rolls rather than bouncing back to the thrower, while its M5GK variant also disperses 60 g of rubber balls over a 10 m diameter.

Single, multi-report and flash effects
The number and spacing of reports is the first line of a stun-grenade specification. A single report, as on the RSB-P or RSFB, gives a short distraction; multi-report models keep a room disoriented longer, the RSB-4P and RSB-4PZ giving four reports and the RSB-7P seven at one-second intervals. The RSB-D3 fires three 7 g loadings 0.8 to 1 second apart after a shorter 1.5 to 2 second delay. Sound levels are stated at 1 m: minimum 120 dB for the RSB and RSFB models and 140 dB for the RSB-D3.
Body construction and throw-back
The aluminium-bodied models are built without fragmentation parts: the RSB and RSFB hold their loadings in carton shells inside a cylindrical aluminium body and the RSB-D3 is a full-aluminium cylinder with no fragmentation parts, while the RSB-M5 has a spherical rubber body that rolls and bounces to resist throw-back. Masses run from about 120 g for the RSB-P, RSFB and RSB-M5 to 530 g for the RSB-D3. All use a hand-activated mechanical igniter, carry a five-year shelf life and ship in waterproof cartons of 12 to 32 units under UN 0431, Class 1.4 G.
Questions about this equipment
Which stun grenade suits enclosed rooms with a risk of throw-back?
The RSB-M5 has a spherical rubber body that rolls and bounces on landing, making it hard for a subject to pick up and return before the 3-second delay expires. The RSB-M5GK variant adds 60 g of rubber balls dispersed over a 10 m diameter for a physical deterrent effect.
Do these grenades produce fragments?
The RSB series, RSFB and RSB-D3 are described as fragment-free: their loadings are held in carton shells or in a full aluminium body with no fragmentation parts. The RSB-M5 specification gives no fragment statement but describes a spherical rubber body. The effect is sound, and light on the models whose record states it (RSFB and RSB-D3), at a minimum of 120 dB (140 dB for the RSB-D3) measured at 1 m.
